Sullivans Give $250,000 to Support Student Scholarships
December 2006
Graduate Theological Union board member Maureen Sullivan and
her husband Craig have given $250,000 to the GTU campaign for Scholarship
Endowment in the name of the Maureen and Craig Sullivan Scholarship Fund. The
couple is deeply committed to providing students an opportunity to attend
academic institutions regardless of their financial status. Their gift helps
the GTU reach its goal of offering scholarships and stipends to more than half
of its doctoral students by 2010. The awards will lighten many students’
financial burdens, eliminate or reduce their need for outside employment, and
allow the GTU to compete for students with the greatest potential for
theological leadership.
Maureen Sullivan also serves on the boards of trustees of
Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican
and Catholic Charities in San
Francisco. She is a past member of the board of the Dominican School
of Philosophy and Theology, the Oakland
Museum, the Magic Theatre in San Francisco, and the
Stern Grove Festival Association. Ms. Sullivan is past chair of the board of
San Francisco General Hospital Volunteer Foundation and has served on boards of
several organizations related to arts and religion. She received a B.A. in
philosophy from Stanford University and an M.A. in counseling psychology from
the University of
San Francisco. She is the
mother of two daughters. She and Craig live in San Francisco.
